This post explores common web video sizes. The main sizes of video used on the web are as follows:

  • 640 X 480 pixels
  • 320 X 240 pixels

These are the most popular sizes of web video. There are more but again these are mostly widely used. Notice that the proportion is 4:3 (or aspect ratio)

320 X 240 is called QVGA or Quarter VGA - this is also popular for mobile devices

640 X 480 used to be the standard resolution for PC monitors in the 1990s, but is now a common display resolution for PDAs.
